Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

All praise and thanks be to Allah, who has guided us and shown mercy to us, enabling us to gather here in good health and well-being.

Prayers and peace be upon our Master and Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who served as a model for us in all matters.

Dear ladies and gentlemen, in this opportunity, I will discuss the virtue of knowledge.

Dear Muslim brothers and sisters, may Allah bless you. Knowledge is one of the most precious treasures in our lives. It serves as a light that guides us on the right path and prevents us from straying onto the wrong path. Knowledge is the key to happiness and success in this world and the hereafter.

Seeking knowledge is a major task for every Muslim, as it is considered a provision needed on the path to happiness in this world and the hereafter, and also as a way to get closer to Allah.

Allah says in Surah Al-Alaq, verses 1-5:

اِقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِيْ خَلَقَۚ ١ خَلَقَ الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍۚ ٢ اِقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْاَكْرَمُۙ ٣ الَّذِيْ عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِۙ ٤ عَلَّمَ الْاِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْۗ ٥

The Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, also emphasizes the importance of seeking knowledge. Our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

طَلَبَ العِلْمِ فَرِيْضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ ( رَوَاه ابْنُ مَاجَهُ )

Means: “Seeking knowledge is mandatory for every Muslim” (narrated by Ibn Majah)

These two pieces of evidence from the Qur’an and the Hadith indicate the importance of seeking knowledge in Islam. Therefore, we must all strive to acquire knowledge. And we should never stop learning, in order to attain happiness in this world and the hereafter.

May Allah guide us and assist us all in seeking knowledge so that we can apply it in our lives. Amen.
